Finland is known for wood. Almost 80 % of the surface area is covered by forests. Especially in the countryside wood is typical construction material and in Helsinki you can find old wooden houses -area in Puu Käpylä.
Beautiful and colorful wooden houses are built mostly at the 1930’s. If you are interested in architecture, there is also the Olympic Village area constructed for the Olympic Games 1952 ( not wooden ).
We start from Käpylä Railway station ( 10 mins by local train from Helsinki main Railwaystation) and climb to the little hill Taivaskallio to see the scenery of the area. Then we walk down to the wooden village and enjoy the beautiful houses and have lunch in pretty local restaurant if you want (extra cost). After that we can walk in to my apartment in the area, have coffee with (vegan) blueberry pie, and I can tell more about living in Finland and would love to hear your stories too.
