Our trip is to explore the beauty of “Cannanore“, the beach side town in the North Kerala at the periphery of Coorg district in Karnataka. It is also popularly known as “Malabar“, as it falls in the Malabar region. This Malabar town is also known as the Land of Looms and Lores, because of the weaving industry functioning in the district and ritualistic folk arts held in temples. Cannanore is famous for its pristine beaches, Theyyam (its native performing art), and its handloom industry.
Cannanore is one of the 62 military cantonments in the country. The Indian Naval Academy (INA) is 35 km north of Kannur City. It is Asia’s largest and the world’s third largest naval academy. An Indian Coast Guard Academy has received approval to be built at Kannur. This academy will be built on the banks of Valapattanam River at Irinave, east of Azhikkal.
Trekking to Vaithalamala
Vaithalamala is on the borders of Coorg and Cannanore districts. Monsoon (June to October) trekking to Vaithalmala is a photographer’s delight as the mist blankets the hills and forest.
The best part of the trek is the walk from the observatory tower to the thick forest where the trail from Kappimala ending at a scenic viewpoint from the hilltop. The grassland looks stunning here and arguably is the best scene of the trek. We will begin the trek from the valley early morning, after breakfast and finish by evening. Lunch, water, and snacks will be carried.
The home stay is at around 15 kilometres away from the base of trekking, which is a beautiful house amidst the Coffee estate and plantations, with good comfortable bed, attached toilets, and a delicious local cuisine with the hospitable host.
White water rafting
Experience the sport under the guidance of instructors with over 15 years of experience rowing through waters not many get to explore. Unlike the rapids of Karnataka, this area is more secluded and well suited for the explorer at heart. After a trek following the rafting, we all unwind the trip at a famous beach around the cantonment of Cannanore.
