It was opened for navigation on the 17th of November 1869.Egypt nationalized the canal on the 26th of July 1956.The Canal was closed five times; the last time was the most serious one since it lasted for 8 years. The Canal was then reopened for navigation on the 5th of June 1975.After crossing the canal from one side to the other, you will be driven back to Cairo.
