Chikanta chiefdom founded between 1700 and 1800 and is home to 55,000 Tonga speaking people. The seat of governance of the Chikanta chiefdom is known as Chungu Palace. The Chungu name originates from the stone-age period when the people started using traditional stone grinding machines that women used to pound grain meal and sieving using wind to separate out the chaff.
Chikanta chiefdom has set up a village museum to showcase their culture at Chungu Palace. you are invited to come and experience the by-gone times of the Bantanga clan.
