Visit the Quay Salt company, explore lighthouse park, step inside Her Majesty’s Prison and enjoy free time in Cockburn Town.
You will begin your tour at the cruise center where you will meet your driver and guide.
Your first stop would be at the Grand Quay Salt Company, also known as the “salt house” which brings to life the salt pans of the 17th century.
You will then re-board your transportation for the drive to the northern most end of Grand Turk, making a brief photo stop along the way.
The lighthouse which over look North Creek was completed in 1862 to alert sailors of the shallow reef which saved the Island salt industry.
After a narrative tour and some time to take photos, you will then make your way to Cockburn Town,, the tiny capital of the Islands.
Once in Cockburn Town, your guide will provide you with a brief historical overview as well as a brief visit in the Anglican Church, you will then make your way to Her Majesty’s Prison Museum on foot from the church, this prison was built in the 1830s- housing prisoners until 1994.
Your guide would not only provide you with some interesting historical facts but will tell you some colorful tales associated with the prison. after your time “in prison” you will have some free time in town before returning to the cruise center.
Participants should wear lightweight clothing, sensible footwear sunscreen and sun-glasses.
This tour is wheelchair accessible.
DURATION AND TIMETABLE:
This is a 2 hours and 45 minutes and the time at each stop is determined by the driver and guide.
